Bass Boats for Sport and Leisure

There are many different types of boats that are used in the world today. These boats are made from different materials such as metal, fiberglass and wood. There are flat bottom boats and V-hull boats just to name a few. Boats of these types can range from $500.00 to $100,000.00 dollars. The type of boat you choose would be based on what you plan on doing with it. If you are planning on buying a boat there are a few questions you need to ask yourself.

(1)    What am I going to use the boat for, catfish fishing, water skiing, sailing or just leisure?

(2)    Do I need to buy a new or used boat?

(3)    How many people will the boat hold?

For Instance if you choose to buy a bass boat, the average boat would be around 18ft with a 150 horse power outboard motor. That is where another question comes into play.

     (4)    What type of engine would you buy with this boat?
Such as a Mercury, Honda, Yamaha, Johnson or Evenrude and so on.

The bass boat is not a ski boat (for pulling a person from behind it) it’s a fishing boat that should be equipped with fishing equipment like a fish finder, rod holders, bait tank and flotation device (life vest). The bass boat can be used just as well for leisure. Some basic bass boats are Ranger, Sheeter, Alison, Bass hawk and Triton. You should also know if you buy a new or a used boat what type of warranty you’re getting with it. Boat size and weight is also important because if you buy a boat 25 gross ton or more that carries 6 paying passengers and crew you will need a captain’s license.

IN ADDITION you must also comply with all other applicable state and federal regulations appropriate to the classification, size and use of your vessel. If you carry passengers for hire or tips, you are considered a commercial enterprise which requires a captain license.

So before you go bass boat or any other type boat shopping, be sure to do some research and above all shop around for the best possible deal. But most of all remember the golden rule “shoppers beware”. Good luck and I hope you find what you want.
